How to Choose a Material for Furniture to Order
Cabinet furniture, such as wardrobes, beds, and sofas, occupies a larger part of the interior and always attracts attention. It is made of a wide variety of materials: glass, plastic, metal, and their combinations. But special attention should be paid to wooden furniture.
Wooden furniture has numerous advantages, among which are the following pros:
• Durability. Furniture from wood will last you a very long time – we give a multi-year guarantee on it.
• Strength. Breaking the table made of ash is rather problematic. Just as the rest of the wooden furniture, actually.
• Resistance to deformation. Wooden furniture does not change its shape over time, even impacted by external factors.
In furniture stores, there are a large number of different products, among which, however, you may find it hard to get what you need. Using the services of our workshop, you will have the opportunity to choose both the material for your future furniture and its design.
So, what kind of materials is wooden furniture made of? First of all, it should be understood that they are all divided into categories by density:
• Soft wood (Alder, poplar)
• Solid wood (Walnut, oak, ash)
• Very solid wood (Dogwood, hornbeam)
The Most Popular Kinds of Wood
Now let’s consider the kinds of wood that are most often chosen for producing furniture. They have different parameters, the most important of them being waterproofness and durability.
Pine is used most commonly for such purposes. This material is rumored to even disinfect the air. The wood is yellowish or brown and has a specific odor. It is used for the manufacture of frames and furniture and is normally subjected to mandatory varnishing since without it the wood will be glued together.
Oak. A noble tree, the furniture made of which is very massive and heavy. It is great for making a great furniture array: it contains incredible strength, but at the same time is characterized by compliance during processing. However, oak is very difficult to split, which is a guarantee of its long-term service. It is possible to paint oak in many colors and natural shades.
Walnut. Walnut furniture is an exquisite and elegant choice. The value of such wood is determined by its age. During processing, walnut wood behaves quite pliant, but in use it is considered super-strong. It is perfect for coloring in a variety of light natural shades.
Alder. This material is also pretty heavy. It has a beautiful structure, a reddish shade, and natural resilience. Alder is also compliant for processing, well cut, so with it you can embody a lot of the most unconventional design solutions.
Ecological Compatibility
A person typically spends a lot of time in their own house. Under such conditions, poor-quality furniture can become a direct threat to health. Thus, it is very important to choose from good, environmentally-friendly options. Why is it important? – Even the smallest dose of harmful substances can spoil your health over time when the cumulative effect works. The most dangerous substance, which, however, is still sometimes used in the manufacture of furniture, is formaldehyde. It can cause asthma and various allergic reactions, making the conscious customer treat it with care when choosing. Even natural furniture is not a guarantee of safety and cleanliness: a tree that was chosen for manufacturing could grow in contaminated areas. Of course, in this case, its environmental friendliness is out of question.
Our joinery staff use only ecologically clean wood brought from the relevant regions of Ukraine. The choice and testing of wood are conducted personally by our professional masters and includes the use of a dosimeter.
Laminated Chipboard and Particleboard Panels
The safety and environmental friendliness of chipboard and particleboard panels has long been a contentious issue. On the one hand, this material is low cost compared to wood, on the other hand, it is toxic.
Often when buying furniture from chipboard and plan to keep it indoors for a very long time, the material emits a persistent, extremely unpleasant smell. This is due to the fact that during the processing of the material, toxic substances such as phenol, formaldehyde, and ammonia are used. They can provoke allergies and asthma, being especially dangerous for young children.
Our company does not use these materials in the manufacture of furniture because we consider ourselves responsible for the health of our customers.
